  1. I cannot believe the day is finally here. I'm incredibly excited about the Demo and, as I write this comment with about 15 hours of played time under my belt, I can say that Classic is going to be a great experience. There are some concerns I have with the direction of Classic and some modern implementations, but nothing has been so bad as to make me feel the game won't be fun to play. You'll get more of my thoughts as these Let's Plays continue (~13 episodes total, I think), and I'll include a discussion video or two very soon with more in-depth discussion. For now, sit back, grab some popcorn, and let's play the World of Warcraft: Classic Demo.

  9. "I dont ever throw stuff" Your kidding right? Leveling solo rogue, there are so many times where its better to pull the mob with a throw instead of getting aggro from others, so what if you lose the opener. You also lack awareness of your surroundings. During every fight you should be using camera to look around. Bad enough to not see mobs standing there, Or miss patrols, but youre never going to see players come up behind you either. World pvp takes awareness. Good rogues will have players already focus targeted while fighting the mob they were grinding on.

Instead of stealth+sprint to get an ambush, then get aggro from the close mobs, just throw the knife and save sprint to get you out of trouble. Also if this wasnt the demo, you would be using sword build to level.

  13. I only play mobile games when i am waiting for something. At the dentist or such. It's ridiculous how they are announcing games for the mobile phone and no one gives a damn. 😀

  15. How much i missed these days…….. dinging and being able to use a hard earned skillpoint! To compare stats in every little item you drop, just to squeeze out every little bits of dps for leveling.

  22. soupa, phasing and sharding explained:

Phasing is when your the area around your character changes based on quest completion (or some other flags in a small handfull of cases). It was first introduced in high level TBC areas near the end of the expansion, there was no phasing in vanilla. Many vanilla zones got phasing during the Cataclysm rework.

Your most recent encounter with phasing (that i can think of) is your BfA rogue going to an oasis in Voldun and talking to a crazy guy that had some skulls. After you did a bunch of quests for the guy, there was ghosts by the skulls, the cave was and inn with the guy the innkeeper, and there was a flight path to learn that wasn't there before.

I don't think you saw any of the TBC phasing but you saw a bunch on your warlock in WotLK Icecrown (i.e. recall the shadow vault turning into a quest hub after you did since quests to clear it of enemies). Icecrown was actually kind of notorious at the time for doing a lot of phasing.

Sharding is when the server balances how much population is in a given zone dynamically. For example (fake numbers follow, to give you an idea), let's say the barrens are best for 100-200 people. If you have less than 100 people can't find groups fast enough or people to trade with. If you have more than 200, you can't complete quests fast enough because there is too many so everything is tagged to gray, and the people start swearing at each other. So as people log in or fly into barrens, the server keeps count, and if there are 200 people there it splits it into 2 100 person shards. Those are allowed to grow until they reach 200, in which case are split again. If two shards fall bellow 100, they are combined into one shard. Two people on different shards standing in exact same physical location won't see each other even if from same server. If people are grouped, they always see each other, and the sharding rules have to work around that. Sharding was introduced during WoD as an emergency fix to deal with all the characters filtering through one of two spots (where the garrison build quest completes) and that crashing the servers.

Blizz has announced that classic will shard the first week or so until there is less level 1 characters being made simultaneously in the same set of spots, as it goes live.

Lastly, related, there is grouped relms and cross relms.

During MoP (or was it late Cata maybe?) there was a bunch of very low pop relms and people had a hard time grouping, making guilds, trading, etc.. those relms were grouped so people from two (or more) grouped relms would effectively be on same relm (see each other out and about, be able to form guilds together, etc…), but would still log into their specific relm to access their character

Cross relm came about around the same time or just after, where you could group with people on other relms to do non-instanced stuff even if those relms are not grouped.

  23. Is it weird that I love everything but the graphics? Played the game up to LK and the only thing I'd like to see is an HD version, such as reforged W3.

  24. I'm getting 130FPS on ultra settings at 4K. This is an incredibly lightweight WoW client. It's probably CPU-bound.

  26. SoupaSoka, let me explain you why sharding is needed during the launch (and specifically starting area):

there will be literally 100+ level 1 characters competing for the same quest mobs during the server launch day

mobs cannot be tagged (unless you are in max 5 people party, which there will be many)

Most likely there won't be dynamic respawns (which is very popular on private servers)

these problems will be even bigger on the server with famous streamers playing on them

People who are 100% against any type of sharding are too dumb to realize these issues. It's all nostalgia to them, but servers will not be playable for days, maybe even weeks.

And don't even think about having ''people standing in line for quests'' it didn't happen in Vanilla, nor it will happen in Classic. Those times are long gone.

I'm only asking for people not to be hypocrites, some will actually want to play the game (I know surprising isn't it?) but they won't be able to due to the previously mentioned issues THAT WILL HAPPEN, if sharding won't take place at the starting area of each race.
